Eric is a
chartered accountant, CA (SA), having qualified while still under
articles. He also has both CPIM and CSCP qualifications from
APICS and is also a SAQA assessor. Since 1990 he has run his own
business consultancy, MASC Associates, offering business management,
performance measurement, manufacturing and financial management
advice to a wide range of clients. Over the last 20 years he has
consulted to over 100 organisations ranging from multinational
corporations to sole traders.
Prior
to setting up his own business Eric had been involved as Systems
Controller for a diamond mine, running everything from the
department store, through Engineering control, Production Control,
the Mine Store (over 70 000 line items) to the airport and a CIA
level security system. After that he was Systems Development Manager
for a Stainless Steel Mill where he was responsible for the
implementation of the CPIM programme and was developing a Theory of
Constraints model before there was even a name for the
concept!
After a
two year period as a principal consultant for one of the major
international practices he was poached by a client to become their
group manufacturing consultant. He had up to 57 companies reporting
in to him. During this period he was responsible for many successful
MRPII implementations as well as for introducing CPIM education to a
number of group companies.
In 1990
he returned to Cape Town as director of another international
consultancy but again was approached to join a manufacturing client
as General Manager although still maintaining his own practice. When
he decided to break away from the client he developed his own
practice to where it is today, serving over 60 clients
consistently. He has also served on the board of SAPICS as well
as being a member of the local committee for almost 20 years. Among
other assignments, he is actively responsible for the development
and distribution of the compete© productivity assessment
programme.
He is widely experienced in the production
environment having been involved as systems development manager,
production manager and general manager as well as internal
manufacturing consultant to a wide variety of companies. Eric has
spoken at several international conferences on subjects ranging from
Computer Integrated Manufacturing to Performance Measurement. He
also lectures in Manufacturing subjects for the CPIM qualification
(he is a member of the APICS lecturers programme) and has guest
lectured at UCT as well as running many MRPII courses. Eric has also
spoken at a number of local conferences and seminars. He is
responsible for business and strategic planning as well as many
aspects of Production and Inventory Management as well as financial
planning, budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
