Farayi Kambarami

After High School, Mr. Kambarami studied for a Bachelor's degree in Business Studies and Computing Science at the University of Zimbabwe. Having completed this program, he joined Unilever as a Management trainee in their then Commercial/IT division. At the end of an intensive One year training process of what was supposed to be an Eighteen to Twenty Four Month program,Mr. Kambarami was appointed Assistant Planning Manager/Fourth Shift Co-ordinator. Reporting to the Planning Manager he was responsible for process compliance within the planning function and was also tasked with the fine tuning of the Manufacturing Requirements Planning System (MRP II), Fourth Shift.

Mr. Kambarami's next appointment, a year later, was to the post of IT Projects Manager. This gave him overall responsibility for the delivery of all Business Projects within the company which had a significant IT component. Among others, he successfully implemented the first data warehouse for the Zimbabwe operation, Re-implemented the Fourth Shift system with the goal of improving the Inventory Management and Control. Mr. Kambarami also led the implementation of the Mercialincs PC demand planning system and was a key member of the team that clarified the business processes needed to support its effective use.

After a stint in IT, he then moved on to Supply Chain Planning Management initially as Planning Manager for Unilever Zimbabwe and then later for Unilever South East Africa (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique). As Planning Manager, he was responsible for both Demand and Supply Planning for the business. Mr. Kambarami ran the company's Monthly Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Process on behalf of the board and was responsible for ongoing production scheduling and Materials Requirements Planning (MRP).

Four years later, he took on a different challenge in National Account Management for Unilever Zimbabwe. As the Key Account Manager for Modern Trade Wholesalers, he was responsible for the development and implementation of Customer Business Plans with the company's Key Wholesale Accounts. Among other things, this also included the development of Joint Planning initiatives to improve the efficiencies and customer service levels for both businesses.

With the worsening of the Zimbabwean economy, Mr. Kambarami left Unilever to Join Woolworths in 2006 as a Demand Planner for groceries. Close to two years later, he moved into a Tactical Planning role working across the Longlife area and having a primary responsibility of developing tactical forecasts for the business' strategic suppliers.

His main expertise lies in Projectand Programme management especially that which has to do with the implementations of ERP systems. He is also skilled in Supply Chain Planning.

Farayi is the current President of the South African Chapter of the Institute of Business Forecasting and Planning (IBF) and is currently studying towards the instiute’s Certified Professional Forecaster qualification.

Farayi is married with one son. A geek at heart, he spends most of his spare time playing with, working or dreaming about electronic gadgets. Strangely enough, he also loves the great outdoors and the wonders of nature.
